Reflection Paragraph on Sources
When researching and trying to find sources, you came across ones that were reliable and also ones that were not very reliable. For all of my information I made sure that the sources I had were reliable by checking out the content in the article or on the website before citing it. It was very easy finding sources for my research because I do not know anyone that would be for bullying, so all of the sources i found and used helped me out with my research and answered my question. I think the articles with the effects of bullying and how a bullies mind works were the most useful articles because it contained a variety of information that I could used toward my research. The article contained information, including: the effects of bullying for the victim, how bullying effects the bully, and also the different types of bullying and how which are the worst. The most trustworthy sources that I found were my news articles, I knew they were statistically correct and a reliable source, which is were I found a majority of my information. The news articles also included a lot of research studies in them, which also helped with my research. Most of the articles I used contained obvious bias against the topic of bullying, which is understandable because you would have to be sick to think that bullying is right in any circumstance.
Reflection Paragraph on Process
During my search on bullying, I fell sadness because I could feel for the people as I know how big of an issue it is. To me, the blog was easy at times but could get challenging at other times. I believe this project was easy because I chose a topic that I was very interested in, wanted to find more information on it, and also wanted to spread the word to others. It got hard at times critically thinking about your articles and quotations because sometimes you second-guess yourself wondering if you translated it correctly. Throughout this whole experience, I most enjoyed making the Animoto video because I am not very creative, and it brought out my crafty side. For the most part I enjoyed this project, however I did not like quote, paragraph, and citation posts. If I had to do this project again, I would work ahead with my posts and not wait until the night of to do them, that way I don't have to feel like I have to rush with my blog. Overall, I enjoyed this project!
Wordle #2
I chose the words that I chose for my Wordle 2 because I felt that they were the most relevant to the topic and were the most powerful. Looking at my Wordle tells a story itself with just the words I chose. When you quickly glance at the picture, you see the words "Tell another." I chose these words to stand out in the center because I want to get the point across that it is okay if you are bullied, but it will only get better if you get help, and one way to do that is to start off by telling someone.
Reflection Paragraph on Findings
I knew that bullying was a very serious issue and should not be taken lightly, but doing research on the topic expanded my knowledge on the topic and also made my ideas more thorough. Throughout the whole experience I think the most important facts that I found out included: bullying is such a serious topic that 45 states have enforced anti-bullying laws; bullying has an impact on the the victim, no matter the type of bullying; also, 65% of bullying is unreported...imagine the numbers we would have if 100% were reported! The most surprising research I found was that not only do the victims of bullying have long term effects, but so does the bully. It is a lose-lose situation. In 2003, South Carolina was ranked #10 with bullying in America, which is very high. Since 2003, South Carolina has some anti-bullying laws intact. For example, one of the many include: "H4758 (2008) allows a high school student who is the victim of physical abuse, harassment, or stalking by a classmate during school hours or otherwise resulting in a restraining order to transfer with the consent of the student's school district to another high school within or out of the district within thirty school days of the restraining order being violated, without any loss of eligibility to participate in interscholastic activities at the school to which the student transfers." (State and Federal Bullying Information) I still have a question, what has made bullying increase so much in the last few years? What is it with this generation? Doing this blog has made me feel more toward my topic. I knew it was very serious, but I did not know that it caused 165,000 kids to not attend school each day due to the fear of bullying.

Finding Paragraph #3
Hearing all of these shocking stories, not being able to believe what some kids to do others, most of the time for no reason at all is heartbreaking. This may lead you to contemplate whether you think, should bullies get punished? In 2006, there "no-blame" policy for school bullying started spreading. "The approach works by confronting bullies with the damage they are doing to their victims. Children being bullied tell a teacher how they are feeling, who explains how the child feels to a "support group" made up of bullies and, usually, friends of the child. The group are told that they are not being punished but given responsibility to stop the bullying and make a difference to the child's life. The group comes up with ways in which they can help the child." this policy has cause a lot of controversy because in the past, research has show that a non-punishment consequence is not shown to work. (Johnson) Most cases of bullying are never reported, so how could a punishment be effective if we could hardly ever figure out who to punish? "The study also notes the high percentage, 64%, of respondents who experience bullying but did not report it." (What Characteristics of Bullying, Bullying Victims, and Schools Are Associated with Increased Reporting of Bullying to School Officials? Issues & Answers) We all have heard if you're going to do the crime, you have got to do the time. This should also be used in the bullying situations with the punishment of bullies. It's not a mistake until you realize what you have done wrong. How can bullies realize what they have done wrong if they do not get punished for what they have done? Obviously bullying is a crime. You're hurting someone and there are already laws in a majority of the states. How could it not be considered a law if there are laws preventing it? "Forty-five states now have anti-bullying laws; in Massachusetts, which has one of the strictest, anti-bullying programs are mandated in schools, and criminal punishment is outlined in the text for even the youngest offenders." (Bennett) Remember, "By telling another, you can save another." -Justin Barrick
Finding Paragraph #2
Bullying can leaves an impact on people, not being a postive one. With that, how does being bullied as a child affect someone's future? Also, what if bullying was never known, how would the way we see each other and the things we say about them change? "A new wave of research into bullying’s effects, however, is now suggesting something more than that — that in fact, bullying can leave an indelible imprint on a teen’s brain at a time when it is still growing and developing." After a study was done, the scientists found that victims of bullying showed symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders than kids who hadn't been bullied. (Anthes) People who are bullied have a higher risk of depression and anxiety, including the following symptoms that may persist into adulthood: Feeling lonely and sadness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and also lack of interest in activities. There are long-term effects for not only the victims of bullying, but also the bullies themselves. These effects include: have a higher risk of abusing drugs and alcohol, more like to engage in early sexual activity, more likely to have a criminal record at an earlier age..."In one study, 60% of boys who bullied others in middle school had a criminal conviction by age 24."), and are more likely to be abusive as an adult...to their spouse or even their children. (Effects of bullying) "Eleven characteristics were found to have a statistically significant association with reporting of bullying victimization, specifically." (What Characteristics of Bullying, Bully Victims, and Schools are Associated with Increased Reporting of Bullying to School Officials? Questions and Answers) If bullies did not used something that they didn't like agaist you, or used rumors, etc; then there would be no bullying, there would be no crying, there would be no reason for students to be afraid to go to school, there would be no short and long term affects, school would be a safer environment for students to feel protected.

Finding Paragraph #1
We have all seen and heard about the horrifying issue of bullying. This causes many to question, why do people bully? Also, which type of bullying effects people the most? People bully for all different reasons, including: attention, it makes them feel higher, they want something that someone else has, their mind is not in the correct state, and so many more reasons. (Rampur) All types of bullying have been proven to lower self-esteem, but verbal abuse, or as the author calls it, "social manipulation" has led to kids feeling helpless and not having control over how they feel. Dr. Stephen Joseph did a study and found that name-calling is the worst form of bullying. The article states, "Name-calling is more devastating for children's self-confidence than physical bullying, a study suggests."("Name-callling 'worst form of bullying'") Name-calling is a form of verbal abuse involved with bullying, so verbal bullying is the worst and impacts people the most. "Words can cause pain. Teasing becomes bullying when it is repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child. It can be verbal." (Teasing and Bullying: No Laughing Matter) "Courage is fire, and bullying is smoke." -Benjamin Disraeli.

Quote, Paraphrase, and Summary #5
Author's Quote: "Remember that kids look to their parents for protection and advice. While you may think it will toughen your child up to deal with her own conflicts, the reality is that bullies rely on physical superiority or strength in numbers to prevent their victims from fighting back. A refusal to get involved on your part will leave your child feeling alone and helpless, which could cause significant problems trusting people and forming relationships for the rest of her life."
Paraphrase: Kids and teens look up to their parents as a figure for them to follow. Kids look to them for advice and to feel secure about the situation; in this case bullying. You probably think that kids should stick up for themselves and solve their own problems, but in the situation of bullying, it is better if you fight back against the bully. Neglecting the situation and not getting involved in the problem could cause problems for your child later on in life and for the rest of their life such as: trusting and forming relationships.
Summary of the Article: If you do not help your child get through the bullying situation when or if they go through it, then it could lead to damage to the relationship that you have with your child. Some signs to look out for if you think that someone is getting bullied include: withdrawal, sudden drop in grades, a refusal in going to school, staying away from kids that used to be friends, complaining of headaches and/or stomachaches quite often, crying episodes, and unexplained bruises. Bullying builds or makes a victim fearful and afraid.
Source Analysis: This author uses basic infomation to get their point across. They want everyone to understand the article so they can get the point across. The author starts with the question, "What is bullying?" With this question, the author answers it, and then he expands on it to give the reader more information about the topic no matter how much they know.

Quote, Paraphrase, and Citation #4
Author's Quote:
Paraphrase: Victims of bullying are more vulnerable to be depressed, anxious, and suicidal. If they go to school (some do not go because of the fear of being bullied) they do not do well. They are more prone to fighting, being under the influence with drugs, and carry weapons. When a teenager is bullied, it can leave an impact; it leaves an imprint in their brain that throws their hormones even more out of whack than they already are.
Summary of the Article: This article talks about what bullying does to a teen and how it affects them based on prior research. They also talk about doing the research and what they found out from the tests. One researcher, Martin Teicher, did a test with 1,000 children who were verbally abused and when he got the results back he saw that the kids who were bullied reported more symptoms of depression, axiety, other psychiatric disorders, etc.
Source Analysis: In this article uses emotion to pull the reader in. This article is loaded with great information, but in order to get it you would have to read the article. This article gets people to read it by drawing their attention in to make them feel the pain. The author does not want you to bully, so telling the audience what happens would be a good way to have them stop; which is what he does.

"In the wake of several tragedies that have made bullying a high-profile issue, it’s becoming clear that harassment by one’s peers is something more than just a rite of passage. Bullied kids are more likely to be depressed, anxious, and suicidal. They struggle in school — when they decide to show up at all. They are more likely to carry weapons, get in fights, and use drugs.
A new wave of research into bullying’s effects, however, is now suggesting something more than that — that in fact, bullying can leave an indelible imprint on a teen’s brain at a time when it is still growing and developing. Being ostracized by one’s peers, it seems, can throw adolescent hormones even further out of whack, lead to reduced connectivity in the brain, and even sabotage the growth of new neurons."

This chart is showing the comparison between the years 1999 and 2003 of only reported bullying incidents. The biggest increase is the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, increasing by about 3% each. Bullying has been on the rise recently, and this graph is only showing the reported incidents...imagine what it would be like today if it included every single incident.

Quote, Summary, Source Analysis, and Citation #3
Author's quote: "Trusting a child or teenager with a computer is much like trusting them with a car. Their inexperience can lead them to avenues that they may not know what to do with while they’re alone in their room."
Paraphrase: This quote is very powerful for my topic, because it is true. When a computer is given to a student, it is the perfect option for them to make fun of someone or to pick on them online or on a social networking site; especially when no one is with them. Just like the quote: "Character is doing the right thing when no one is watching."Without the knowledge on something, it can lead to children or teens more likely to making mistakes (in this case being bullying on the computer) and then regretting them in the long run.
Summary of the article: The article talks about how cyber bullying has increased and now how it is starting to become a problem with social networking sites and also texting. Cyber bullying has become a big problem of many people slowly over time. In the article it states a quote from Dr. Kimberly S. Young: "The Internet has been called a big city with no police."
Source Analysis: In this article the author uses different ways to intrigue the audience, other than just boring them with facts. One thing that I noticed the author used, was quotes. The author used these quotes to make the article more appealing with information. When you see a quote by a professional in the topic, you tend to use that source more. Also, the author used a picture to draw more emotion toward the topic and the article.

Quote, Summary, Source Anaylsis, and Citation #2
Author’s quote: “If your child is the victim of a bully, he may suffer physically and emotionally, and his schoolwork will likely show it. Grades drop because, instead of listening to the teacher, kids are wondering what they did wrong and whether anyone will sit with them at lunch. If bullying persists, they may be afraid to go to school. Problems with low self-esteem and depression can last into adulthood and interfere with personal and professional lives.
Bullies are affected too, even into adulthood; they may have difficulty forming positive relationships. They are more apt to use tobacco and alcohol, and to be abusive spouses. Some studies have even found a correlation with later criminal activities.”
Bullies are affected too, even into adulthood; they may have difficulty forming positive relationships. They are more apt to use tobacco and alcohol, and to be abusive spouses. Some studies have even found a correlation with later criminal activities.”
Paraphrase: Bullies and victim of bullies both have different effects. The victim’s mind and emotions fluctuate from high to low because their self-esteem is out of whack. Bullies are also affected, but in a different way. Studies show that bullies have a negative for the future; they tend to be more likely to alcohol and tobacco, have trouble with creating good relationships, tend to be physical wives/husbands, and also more likely to be involved with crimes.
Summary of Article: In this article, the author states, “Teasing becomes bullying when it is repetitive or when there is a conscious intent to hurt another child.” 20-30% of students are involved in bullying, either the bully or the victim of the bullying. This article talks about characteristics of those bullied, to inform those reading, someone who is more likely to be a target rather than another. This article also has signs to look for of someone who could potentially be bullied; this is helpful for parents if they are concerned if their child is being bullied or not. Lastly, this article talks about trying to help , stop, or slow down the problem.
Source Analysis: This author does not give a lot of strategies in this article, but some of which that he uses, include: research and pathos. The author uses research and facts because they want to get it out there that is is serious and could be prevented or slowed down. The author includes signs of someone being bullied. I think that the author included this because he wants to help, and he wants people to become aware and know what to do when they come across this situation.

Author’s quote: “Mean-girl behavior, typically referred to by professionals as relational or social aggression and by terrified parents as bullying, has existed for as long as there have been ponytails to pull and notes to pass (today’s insults are texted instead). But while the calculated round of cliquishness and exclusion used to set in over fifth-grade sleepover parties, warfare increasingly permeates the early elementary school years.”
Paraphrase: There is a movie that came out in 2004, Mean Girls, that is about the popular girls in school that did not think anyone was “good” enough to fit in with them, so they bullied them; which is what the author’s word choice means with “Mean-girl behavior.” This type of behavior has been around for a long, long time, but it has increases from beginning in 5th grade, to moving into younger children.
Summary of Article: A girl, Scarlett, has a learning disability which gives her a bigger tendency to get picked on; specifically by the "Mean Girls." Bullying is on the rise and has been going up for a little while. Bullying that used to start to be seen in fifth grade is now being seen upon the younger ages of elementary school. More than half of parents are afraid that their child/children will get bullied. Everyone needs to learn that bullying is not good!
Source Analysis: In this article, the author uses an immensive amount of persuasive techniques and strategies to make the article more interesesting. The authore refers to the movie Mean Girls as a technique. Also, I believe that the author uses bias to get his point across that how much bullying has increased and how it is such a serious issue.

The reason why I chose the words that I chose in my Wordle is because I felt that they would have the most impact on someone who saw it that did not have a lot of knowledge on the topic. If you look at my Wordle, the word “get” is bigger than the rest of the words and then next to that is “someone,” which is somewhat bigger than the rest of the words. This is sending a message to the viewer that if bullied, get someone.

What I Want To Know About My Topic
When researching, not only do I want to find information to inform my audience, but I want to research on information that is new to me. Some of the question I am hoping to answer while doing my research includes the following: Which one type of bullying affects people the most negatively? How does being bullied as a child affect someone’s behavior for the future? What if bullying was never known, how would the way that we think about someone and the things that we say to people change? Should those who bully deserve to be punished? Why do people bully? I ponder these questions in order to come up with a logical reasoning behind this torture and madness. What do the victims of bullying do to deserve such torture? What goes through a bully's mind in order for them to put that kind of pain and suffering on someone so innocent?
What I Know About My Topic
Bullying has become more serious and has impacted more students across the world in the past few years. Bullying is not just punching someone in the face; it also consists of cyber, mental, verbal, and also ruining someone’s possessions. I know that the attempted bombing at Socastee High was caused because the student was bullied. Bullying was also the cause of many incidents, including: Columbine, the Virginia Tech shooting, and the Rutgers University freshman who was secretly filmed in his dorm room. Many, many teens and children are afraid to go to school every day because of the fear that they are going to get bullied. Bullying does not only hurt on the outside, but it also hurts on the inside. Cyber bullying has increased recently because of the amount of children starting out early with computers and using them, such as: Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Formspring, and just IMing. Bullying affects millions upon millions of people.

The Story Behind My Topic Choice
You know the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?” Well, this is not necessarily true. Every day kids are afraid to go to school because of bullying; they do not want to have to face their bully another day. On the news every day I hear a different story on a different teen or child that was bullied to death. Seeing all of these stories can leave an impact on a person realizing how much of an issue it has become. Teens and children think it is a joke to make fun of someone or to physically hurt them, but it is not. I chose this topic because I feel that it is an important issue that needs to be taken more seriously and people need to become more aware of what goes on around them. Bullying not only effects people at the time it is occurring, but it also has long term effects on someone.
